Intro[skip]
Random events is a feature added by Jagex (The developer of RS) to
stop autos - programs made to train your character automatically.
There are two types of random events: Firstly, there are general
events which can occur while you're doing anything, at any time,
like Genie, Mysterious Old Man, and everything you have to do, is to
talk with them. Secondly, there are skill specific events which
occur only when you're training a specific skill.
Paul Gower said on the official forums:
You will NOT die at random
times. The strength of the monster does vary depending on the
strength you are, so you won't be instantly splatted, the
monsters are easy enough to run from.
Its quite easy to see the rocks which take away the pickaxes
when you click on them - therefore you don't and use a different
rock for a few seconds. You are NOT going to lose your axe unless
you really are not paying attention. All these things (referring
to Random Events) are easy to avoid once you know what they are
and you are not a botter (meaning a cheater).
They do not happen fast enough to put much of
a dent on your levelling. They do break the monotiny up slightly
in mining and we will be increasing the variety further.
